Home School and Parent Group Support is for home school parents and parent groups and organizations that support them. These workshops will teach parents strategies for academic skill development and/or engaging them in hands on STEM activities.
Parents as Partners: Supporting Your Students in STEM
The classroom is seen as the place where the majority of a child’s educational experiences take place; however it shouldn’t be the only place where learning occurs. There should be a continuum of learning between their school, home and community, where children are engaged in continuous learning. The home should be the foundation for child’s education where the family supports both inside and outside of the classroom learning opportunities. In this workshop, we will explore how you as a parent can support classroom learning experiences as well as create learning experiences of your own for your child(ren).
Parks are for More than BBQ’s
Your neighborhood has beautiful green space in its national, regional, state and local parks. Parks are used for a diversity of activities and events; but parks can also be a great place for STEM educational experiences for youth. In this workshop, attendees will learn about the ways that educators and parents can utilize parks for STEM educational activities for their children. These activities can help develop academic skills and enhance classroom learning as well as provide opportunities for students to learn more about the environment and ecosystems. The activities will also incorporate the use of technology such as mobile phone apps, cell phones, cameras and scientific equipment.
The Fun and Discovery of STEM: Engaging Kids in Hands on STEM
Kids learn best when there is an opportunity for students to enhance their academic skill development with hands on STEM activities. Hands on STEM activities can be done with kids to reinforce or teach STEM concepts, to answer questions or based on kids interest. In this workshop, we will discuss the various ways that you can engage your kids in hands on activities at home and in the community.
